Show off Sunday: Purse organizer

So this week I dove right in and made an organizer for my purse. I didn't follow a pattern and it isn't an insert, so this might not be very helpful for you if you wanted to make either of those. I, instead, made a shell of my purse, gave it pockets, and attached it to the inside of my purse using Stitch Witchery.

First, I measured the inside of my purse. It was made of 5 panels of fabric. I measured them individually and cut them out in my fabric, with an extra 1/2 inch to allow for seams.

Then I cut out a strip of fabric about the depth that I wanted my pockets to be.

I layer the strip on each panel and pinned it where I wanted to create a pocket. I sewed a seam along each "pocket".

I then attached all of the panels together, so that it looked like the inside of a purse.

After that, I hemmed the top edge to give it a finished look.

I was ready to insert it into my purse. Because my purse had no pockets, I just too the stitch witchery and ironed it in on the bottom, and along the top, to adhere it to the inside of my purse.

Tada!! That's it.

It was a very simple sewing project, and it gave an old purse new life!

  2. Great post, I generally have quite dis-handbag organizer but I do also carry round a measuring instrument and a listing of measurements of varied nooks and crannies of my house just in case} I come across the right thing on my travels, glad I'm not the sole one!
